» YSC Field Trip Registration Form
#1: Bentley Prince Street Carpet Plant Tour Monday August 1, 10 to 11 am, Age 8 and up. $5 per family registration. Limit 25 persons. Bentley Prince Street is a premier carpet manufacturer with a large facility located in the City of Industry. We will visit their virtual design center to see how customers can see how carpeting designs fit into their rooms and buildings, the color dye lab and the plant where carpets are made. BPS installed nearly 100,000 square yards of carpeting in the new Shanghai Pudong International Airport. BPS is a leader in environmental sustainability and is working towards a zero-foot print at their City of Industry plant. Location: 14641 East Don Julian in the City of Industry. Please wear closed-toe shoes.
#2: Nutrilite Health Institute Tour
Wednesday, August 3, 12:45 to 3:30 pm. All ages. $5 per family registration. Meet in the lobby to get an overview of Nutrilite and healthy lifestyles. We will see a movie in their surround sound auditorium. We will then tour this extensive manufacturing plant comfortable shoes. Nutrilite is a division of Amway Products. 5600 Beach Boulevard in Buena Park. Free parking in the visitor’s lot across the street south of the plant
#3: Pacific Miniatures Tour
Friday, August 5, 10 to 11:30 am.
Age 8 and up. Limit 20 persons. $5 per family registration. For 65 years Pacific Miniatures has produced scale models of aircraft, starting with propeller aircraft, and then jets and model rockets. We will see the entire process from design and building of the models. PacMin is located at 2021 Raymer Avenue, Fullerton 92833. #4: Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey Saturday, August 6, 10:00 am to Noon
Ages 5 and up. $4 registration fee per person.

A visit to the new Space Center in Downey. The 20,000 square foot Center opened in 2009 and is filled with many hands-on space and engineering displays, including an interactive piloting exhibit, shuttle docking exhibit and for those 7 years old and up, the Lego robotics “Mission to Mars.” The exhibits were designed by Gyroscope, Inc. Also on display are artifacts from the space program.
#5: Commerce Waste to Energy Plant Monday, August 8 10 to 11 am. Limit 20 persons, 8 years
and older. $5 per family registration.
This state-of-the-art facility generates enough electricity to supply 20,000 homes. We will see the entire process from the weigh scales, refuse storage, Sanitation District of Los Angeles County. Location: 5926 Sheila Street, Commerce 90040. All visitors must wear closed-toe shoes, no sandals.
#6: Los Angeles County Vector Control Laboratory
Wednesday, August 10, 10 to 11:30 am.
Limit 40 persons. $5 per family registration. A vector is any arthropod, insect or rodent capable of transmitting a human disease. We will visit the laboratory to see how they test for these diseases. We will visit the Vector Mobile Bus which has hands-on activities, and the warehouse where different types of vehicles and equipment are used in their daily operations. The laboratory is located at 12545 Florence Avenue, Santa Fe Springs 90670. Enter the parking lot on the east side from Bloomfield. Meet in the lobby. # 7: State Air Resource Board Test Lab
Thursday, August 11, 10:00 to 11:00 am
Ages 8 and up. Limit 20. $5 per family registration fee.
The Haagen-Smit Laboratory does automobile engine testing. We will see cars being tested and learn about vehicles and air pollution. The lab is named after Dr. A.J. Haagen- Smit, the CalTech scientist who discovered the link between automobile exhaust compounds and smog. Location: 9528 Telstar Avenue in El Monte. #8: Young Eagles Program at Flabob Airport Saturday, August 13 7:15 am to 11 am
Limit 30 students 8 to 17 years old.
Registration $5 per family, Flight fee is $10 per student. The Young Eagles program will give students a ground school introduction to flight and airport safety rules and lots more. They will then do a pre-flight safety inspection of the aircraft. Students will board a dual-control aircraft and will take a flight around the Riverside area. They will be allowed to take the controls of the aircraft under the supervision of an FAA certified pilot. The historic Flabob Airport is located at 4130 Mennes Avenue, Riverside 92509. Go east on the 60 Freeway, exit south on Rubidoux Blvd. Turn left on Mission Blvd, go 3 blocks and turn right on Mennes. Meet in building 16A. Flabob opened in 1925 and is the seventh longest surviving airport in California. It has a 3,200 foot runway. A Young Eagles registration form will be sent. It needs to be filled out and signed by a parent and brought to the airport on flight day.
# 9: Jet Propulsion Lab Field Trip
Monday, August 15, 12:45 pm to 3:00 pm
Limit 40 persons. $5 per person.
REGISTRATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY JULY 20. JPL will give the YSC a private tour of the NASA Spaceflight Research and Development Center. The visit will begin with a 20-minute film introduction to space exploration. In the museum we will see models of the Voyager spacecraft, Mars Pathfinder Rover, and learn about plans for future space flight. We will also see Mission Control and the spacecraft assembly area. When registering you must give the full names of all adults and children attending. Persons over 18 MUST GIVE THEIR COUNTRY OF CITIZENSHIP OR RESIDENCE. NO EXCEPTIONS! Deadline to apply is July 15. Location: From Hacienda Heights, take the 60 west, then the 605 north, and the 210 west. Continue through Pasadena and take the 210 northbound. Exit on Berkshire Ave/Oak Grove exit and go right. Turn left on Oak Grove Drive and continue 0.8 miles to JPL. Park in the lot, walk across the street, and meet in front of the main entrance. Allow 45 minutes driving time from Hacienda Heights. #10: Hangar Prosthetics in Anaheim
Wednesday, August 17. 10 to 11 am.
Registration fee $5 per family. Hanger Prosthetics is the largest provider of artificial limbs in the US. We will visit the 19,000 square foot fabrication center for prosthetics in Anaheim. We will see how artificial limbs are made and how they operate. The plant is located at 4155 La Palma Avenue in Anaheim. Age 7 and up. Limit 25. #11: SpaceX Facility in Hawthorne
Friday, August 19. 10 am to 11:30 am.
Bus trip $5 per person. Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) is the leading private rocket launch company. Their latest rocket, Falcon Heavy, can lift nearly twice the payload of the US Space Shuttle. We will get an overview of SpaceX worldwide operations, and then see how their heavy payload rockets are designed, fabricated and assembled. Participants must wear closed to shoes; no photography allowed. The bus will depart Wedgeworth School at 8:30 am. Limit 36 persons. The following information is also required: Full legal name (First, Middle Initial, Last), Last 4 numbers of Social Security Number, US Citizen or Permanent Resident (must provide Form I-551 number), For non citizens, the following must be provided: Country of citizenship, passport number, passport passport expiration date, Date of Birth and Place of Birth). Please bring lunch as we will stop at a park before returning to Wedgworth at approximately 2:30 pm. Deadline to apply: August 7.
# 12: Page Museum / La Brea Tar Pits
Saturday, August 20, 10:00 am to Noon
All Ages. $10 per family.
Location: The museum is located at 5801 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles. Park in the pay lot on the north side of the building off Curson Avenue. Meet at the employee’s entrance on the northeast side of the museum. Space is limited and you must preregister. An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Page Museum to see paleontologists at work in the dig pit and inside the fossil recovery and preparation lab. Learn how animals were trapped in the tar pits. We will also visit the large underground fossil storage area. DO NOT GO TO THE MAIN ENTRANCE!!!
